Early Years Foundation Stage

Pupils in our assessment nursery and reception classes follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.

The foundation stage curriculum is taught through an inclusive topic approach where pupils explore exciting, half termly topics. The curriculum is implemented through both teacher led and child-initiated learning as appropriate for the needs of individual pupils.

Pupils learn in a safe and stimulating early years setting, in an environment where they are encouraged to be independent, creative, explore the world around them, join in and have fun.

Pupils develop communication and language skills in an inclusive setting that meets individual needs. Pupils are able to develop their problem solving and number skills as part of first hand every day learning experiences and play opportunities that encourage and develop social skills and interaction.

Our EYFS curriculum offers a focus on the prime areas of learning, alongside continuous provision which promotes skills in the Prime and Specific areas through a play based approach.

The Prime areas of Learning

  • Personal, Emotional and Social Development (PSED)
  • Communication and Language Development (CL)
  • Physical Development (PD)

The Specific areas of Learning

  • Mathematics
  • Literacy
  • Understanding of the World
  • Expressive Art and Design
